The Community Foundation of Wabash County Announces the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Recipient

One Wabash County student has been named the recipient of the four-year, full tuition scholarship as the Community Foundation of Wabash County 2012 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar

Jesse Hamm, senior at Wabash High School and son of Brian and Dawn Hamm of Wabash, will receive full tuition to the Indiana College of his choice and a $900 yearly stipend for required books and equipment. Hamm hopes to attend Purdue University and major in Chemical Engineering. He has been active in track, football, Key Club, National Honors Society, is Senior Class President, is on the Junior Board of Directors at Crossroads Bank, and volunteers with many organizations, including the March of Dimes in his free time.

Hamm was chosen from a pool of 21 applicants. Selections were made based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, community service, references, and an interview. “The Foundation is pleased to facilitate this award,” says CFWC Executive Director Patty Grant. “Jesse, and the many qualified applicants are to be commended for their significant scholastic achievements.”

Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc. (ICI) is a nonprofit corporation that represents 31 regionally accredited degree granting, nonprofit, private colleges and universities in the state. The scholarships are a result of a statewide Lilly Endowment initiative to help Hoosier students reach higher levels of education. Indiana ranks among the lowest states in the percentage of residents over the age of 25 with a bachelor’s degree. There were 142 scholarship awarded statewide.
