Southwood High School graduates earn Community Foundation Scholarships

Wabash, IN –The Community Foundation of Wabash County recently presented eight scholarships to seven Southwood High School (SHS) graduates. These awards are just part of the more than $63,900 in scholarships offered in 2010.

Several independent, volunteer committees reviewed the applications and awarded the scholarships according to the guidelines set up when each fund was created.

Alysia Adams received the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship.

Adam Dubuque earned the Briannon Joelle Curless Memorial Scholarship, which family members established in 2005 to carry on the memory and meaning of Briannon’s life.

Mary Farlow received the Jerry L. Radabaugh Memorial Scholarship Endowment. Jerry’s family and friends established the scholarship in 2007 to carry on Jerry’s interest in youth and higher education.

Mallory Harnish earned the George W. and Donna Mae Russell Scholarship. This scholarship was established in 2001, upon George’s death.

Cory Metzger received The Wabash High School Alumni Scholarship, which the Wabash High School Class of 1946 established in 2001.

Cassie Rogers will receive assistance from the Wabash County Society for Crippled Children and Adults Scholarship as she pursues a career working with people who are mentally or physically disabled. The society established this scholarship in 2002.

Kayla Sprayue received the Paul Thomas Reahard Memorial Scholarship and the Larry Shoemaker Memorial Scholarship.

Paul Reahard’s parents established a scholarship in his name in 1999 to carry on Paul’s legacy of bringing out the best in students and helping them awaken to the spark of creativity within themselves.

The Larry Shoemaker Memorial Scholarship was established in 2008 with funds raised by the SHS Music Parents to support music education.

People create scholarship endowments, which the Community Foundation administers, for many reasons – they may want to honor or memorialize loved ones, encourage study in a particular field or promote an ideal that will enhance the quality of life in Wabash County and beyond, forever. Contact Executive Director Sally J. Benson, CFRE, at 260-982-4824 to learn more about establishing a scholarship endowment.

Students and parents should visit the Foundation’s website (www.cfwabash.org) when the new school year begins for information about the Foundation’s “Next Steps” program and the 2011 scholarship program.
