Northfield High School graduates earn Community Foundation Scholarships

Wabash, IN –The Community Foundation of Wabash County recently presented seven scholarships to five Northfield High School graduates. These awards are just part of the more than $63,900 in scholarships offered in 2010.

Several independent, volunteer committees reviewed the applications and awarded the scholarships according to the guidelines set up when each fund was created.

Haley Trump received the Vanessa Anne Baer Memorial Scholarship, which Vanessa’s family and friends established in 2007 to memorialize Vanessa and to carry on the memory and meaning of her life.

Marissa Stoffel received the George W. and Donna Mae Russell Scholarship. This scholarship was established in 2001, upon George’s death.

Ethan Kroh earned the Casey Sparling Memorial Athletic Scholarship. This scholarship was established by friends and family to memorialize Casey’s dedication to high school athletics both as a player and as a coach.

Mitchell Dazey received both the Franklin S. Tiede Memorial Education Endowment Scholarship and the Garth Eppley Scholarship.

Charles R. and Julie G. Tiede established the Franklin S. Tiede Memorial Education Endowment Scholarship in 1981 in memory of their son, Franklin S. Tiede. The primary purpose of the fund is to award a scholarship to a person or persons between the ages of 18 and 25 for use in the pursuit of a vocational or educational objective beyond high school level, who is committed to the propagation of the Christian faith.

Laura and Bill Eppley and friends established the Garth Eppley Scholarship Fund in 2008, to memorialize Garth and his love of life and music.

Levi Allen received the Larry G. Lauer 4-H Memorial Scholarship. The Larry G. Lauer 4-H Memorial Scholarship was established in 2008 by family and friends to honor and memorialize Larry and support the 4-H program.

People create scholarship endowments, which the Community Foundation administers, for many reasons – they may want to honor or memorialize loved ones, encourage study in a particular field or promote an ideal that will enhance the quality of life in Wabash County and beyond, forever. Contact Executive Director Sally J. Benson, CFRE, at 260-982-4824 to learn more about establishing a scholarship endowment.

Students and parents should visit the Foundation’s website (www.cfwabash.org) when the new school year begins for information about the Foundation’s “Next Steps” program and the 2011 scholarship program.
